The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has again imposed fines on the Polish Football Association. The ban concerns the inappropriate behavior of Polish fans during an away match against Malta. This is the second time in a short period of time that the Polish Football Association has faced financial consequences following the stand incident.
More problems after the elimination match
Although much has been said in recent months about the commitment and support that fans show to the Polish national team, unfortunately, reports of rule violations often appear. One of them was the October match with Lithuania, after which FIFA fined the Polish federation 39.5 thousand Swiss francs — ie about PLN 180,000. At the time, the representative’s report raised concerns about the use of pyrotechnics, as well as inappropriate slogans and symbols for international events.
The conflict with Malta also resulted in a sanction
During an away match against Malta in November, involvement with Polish supporters occurred again. FIFA has decided to impose yet another financial penalty – this time the amount 16.5 thousand Swiss francsThat is more than PLN 75,000. Although the ban after the Lithuania match is short, it is a serious warning to the federation and a clear signal that repeat offenses will continue to be dealt with harshly.
The report shows that the decision is again related to the use of pyrotechnics and other violations of regulations applicable during international meetings.
The biggest problem for the Polish Football Association is yet to come?
Importantly, bans related to matches against Lithuania and Malta could only be the beginning of more serious consequences. The most serious incident occurred in Warsaw during the Poland-Netherlands clash, when the National Stadium pitch was engulfed in flames.
Such incidents are treated very strictly by FIFA. Experts predict that the financial penalty could be much higher than the previous ones and there could be an additional sanction Partial or complete closure of the stand During the Polish national team’s next home match. This is a very real risk, especially since incidents involving fans have occurred regularly in recent months
Risk is a key playoff match concern
An added problem is that the Polish national team’s next match at the National Stadium will be of sporting importance. On 26 March, Jan Urban’s side will play the play-off semi-final against Albania to advance to the Euros. The possible closure of some parts of the stadium may not only affect the match atmosphere, but also deprive the Polish Football Association of a share of revenue from ticket sales.
Repeated penalties – a serious signal for the Polish Football Association
In recent years, FIFA has been gradually tightening the rules on fan behavior, particularly regarding the use of pyrotechnics and the use of banned symbols. The repeated fines imposed on the Polish Football Association are a clear signal that the federation needs to carry out additional organizational measures and educational campaigns if it wants to avoid an escalation of the problem.
If the incident continues, more severe bans are possible, including playing matches without spectators.
